System Administrator – Unix and Windows <> Location: Mesa, AZ

• To provide Microsoft Windows server(s) install, management, configuration and support  in a critical production environment and to support 3rd party applications running on the windows server.
• The position also requires intermediate knowledge of Unix Operating system to provide support at a entry/intermediate level in a mission critical Unix environment.

 

Experience:

3-5 years of MS Windows 200x “Server” Support

1-3 years of Unix support

 

Tasks and Activities

Windows:

• Provide Microsoft Windows Server operating system support and patch management for compliance
• Monitor and handle server tape backups, performance and availability in compliance to Service Level Agreements.
• Provide day-2-day support to address operational systems issues including file and share permissions, user accounts, performance and capacity issues
• Install and support 3rd party windows applications and provide Tier-2 support
• Work with vendor(s) as needed to resolve hardware and software/application issues.
• Upgrade and replace server hardware and application where appropriate.
• Knowledge and support of Windows Active Directory and Group policy.
• Upgrade and replace server hardware and application where appropriate.

 

Unix/Other Job responsibilities:

• Onsite support for rack, cable, install of servers and day-2-day operations needs
• Monitor and handle the trouble ticket system – respond to and assign requests and ensure requests  are handled
• Monitor daily tape backups and co-ordinate resolution or re-run of backups
• Basic unix level support to create userids, fix permissions, monitor and maintain disk space usage, monitor, setup and support data transfer/feeds issues over network
• Work with IT, network and vendor(s) to open trouble tickets for issues

 

Other Key requirements:

• A strong willingness and desire to learn (self-learner) and to stretch competencies is a must.
• 24 x 7 x 365 – pager/on-call support on rotation
• Strong ability to analyze, research and solve technical issues/needs in existing production, dev and test environment.
• Create and follow Operating (OA&M) procedures as needed and also adapt/update procedures to current needs
• Good communication skills (written and verbal) needed to effectively interact with a diverse group of customers, developers, testers, administrators, and project team.

• Symantec/Veritas Netbackup product and tape backup management
